Who is the Course aimed at

Students attending this course will be from the Mercantile Marine Industry.

These students may be required to form part of a shipboard fire party, who may be required to deal with an outbreak of fire in its incipient or more advanced stages and to rescue trapped or injured persons.

This course is aimed at students who require to wear CABA in order to carry out tasks safely and efficiently and to teach them the operation of equipment provided. Also taught are the procedures to be followed to stabilise an emergency situation.

A pre-requisite for the course is that all students are fit and in good health

Objectives - Our basic three-day course students will receive instruction in:

  • Fixed installations
  • Personal equipment
  • Firefighting appliances and equipment
  • Firefighting agent
  • Firefighting Procedures
  • Knowledge of the chemistry and theory of combustion
  • Use of breathing apparatus for firefighting and effecting rescues

Assessment Process

Pre and post assessment papers will be used to confirm the theoretical knowledge base of the student. The practical exercises will be assessed by Instructional Staff throughout the course.

Certificate Issue

On successful completion of the course a certificate will be awarded to the student in accordance with STCW 95 Code as authorised by the MCA.
