CABA & CHEMICAL PROTECTION SUIT WEARERS Course

For Emergency Response Team Members

Course Philosophy
Students attending this course will be workers in the chemical industry or from industries where chemicals are used as part of a production process.

These students may be part of an emergency response team who may have to deal with an emergency incident in its initial stages and may have to effect a rescue of injured or contaminated persons.

This course will give the students the necessary skills required to carry out these tasks safely and efficiently and take steps in order to stabilise the situation prior to the arrival of the Emergency Services.

Course Aim
To provide the students with the skills required to operate safely and effectively as part of an emergency response team.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an ability to progress through a hostile environment in a safe and controlled manner.

2. Wear and use CABA in the correct manner.

3. Wear and use correctly the Chemical Protection Suits normally used in the student's workplace.

4. Be aware of the limitations in the use of CABA and Chemical Protection Suits.

5. Explain the nature and hazards associated with the main chemical compounds present in the students workplace.

6. Work effectively as part of a CABA team and carry out tasks commensurate with their role as an emergency response team member.

7. Demonstrate an ability to correctly remove an injured casualty away from a risk area.

Assessment Process
During the course, there are two areas of attainment which will be assessed. These areas are:

1. Underpinning knowledge.

2. Skills performance.

The underpinning knowledge will be assessed using pre and post assessment papers. These assessment papers will cover the technical subjects taught on the course.

The skills performance will be assessed on a continuous basis by the course instructors.

Failure to achieve any of the required course objectives will result in further training needs being identified.

Certificate Issue
On successful completion of the course, a certificate will be issued by the SIFTC.
