2 DAY CABA FIREFIGHTING NEW WEARERS Course

Course Philosophy
Students attending this course will be workers from a wide variety of different industries.

These students may be part of a works firefighting team or an emergency response team, who may have to deal with an emergency incident in its initial stages. They may be called upon to effect a rescue of trapped or injured persons.

The course is aimed at persons who have to wear CABA in order to safely carry out tasks in an irrespirable atmosphere.

The course will give the student the necessary skills required to carry out tasks safely and efficiently and possibly take steps in order to stabilise a situation prior to the arrival of the Emergency Services.

A prerequisite for this course is that students attending must be fit and in good health.

Course Aims
To train the student in the correct use of CABA and give an understanding of the safe and correct methods to adopt when in an emergency situation.

To train the student in the methods required to deal with a fire in a safe and efficient manner.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an ability to progress through a hostile environment in a safe and controlled manner.

2. Wear and operate CABA in the correct manner.

3. Be aware of the limitations of the use of CABA.

4. Work effectively as part of a CABA team and carry out tasks, including searching a hostile environment for trapped or injured persons.

5. Demonstrate an ability to correctly remove an injured person from a risk area.

6. Demonstrate an ability to tackle fire in a safe and controlled manner.

Assessment Process
During the course, there are two areas of attainment which are assessed. These areas are:

1. Underpinning knowledge and

2. Skills performance.

The underpinning knowledge is assessed using a pre and post assessment paper system. These assessment papers cover the subjects taught on the course.

The skills performance is assessed on a continuous basis throughout the course by the Course Instructors.

Failure to achieve any of the required course objectives will result in further training needs being identified.

Certificate Issue
On successful completion of the course, a certificate is issued by the SIFTC.
