11 January 2012 - House fire in Dedridge, Livingston

Firefighters were called out to a fire at a terraced house on Mowbray Rise in Livingston at 10.06pm  last night (10th January). The four occupants of the property escaped the blaze prior to the arrival of the Fire and Rescue Service.

Two fire engines attended the fire which was extinguished using a hose reel and four firefighters using breathing apparatus. Three females, aged 37, 15 and 13 were taken to St John’s hospital by ambulance suffering from shock.

A Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters, however the property, which had no working smoke alarms, has been severely damaged by the fire and it was fortunate no one was injured. The Fire and Rescue Service urges residents to ensure they have a working smoke alarm fitted. For a free home safety visit which includes firefighters fitting free smoke alarms, call us on 0800 169 0320.”

It is thought the fire started within a storage cupboard on the first floor.
