Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in West Lothian this morning (October 10).
A van and a tanker collided on the A71, near the North British Distillery, Addiewell, at about 8.40am.
The tanker overturned, and hit a fence, resulting in a spillage of alcohol. The area has been sealed off, and fire crews are working to make the scene safe before accident investigations are carried out.
The 52-year-old van driver was seriously injured, and has been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The tanker driver suffered minor injuries, but has also been taken to ERI.
The A71 is currently closed both ways near the scene. Traffic is being diverted at West Calder via the A704, and at the A706 Breich Cross traffic lights. And the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
A police spokeswoman said: “We are asking anyone who was in the area at the time, and who may have seen exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the collision, to contact us.
“We would also advise motorists to avoid the area this afternoon if possible, to avoid major delays.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
