09 May 2008 - Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life - Sunday 11 May 2008
Firefighters from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service will be supporting the warm-up at the upcoming Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life events taking place in and around Edinburgh.
Outreach Officers Lynne Gow and Lud Ramsey will be helping to get the participant’s blood pumping ready for the female only charity events in South Queensferry on Sunday, and again in the capital at the beginning of June.
Aside from their hard work around the stage area, they will be using the event to promote firefighting as a fantastic career for women.
Lynne Gow, a Watch Manager who is seconded to the Outreach Officer post said, “Race for Life is an absolutely fantastic event, it is great fun and everyone’s hard work counts towards an extremely important cause, so it’s a pleasure for us to attend.
“However, because it attracts so many women, many of whom possess the fitness and drive to have what it takes, it is a perfect platform to promote firefighting as a great career for females.”
Lud, also a seconded Watch Manager, and Lynne will be on hand to offer advice and information to those who would like to know more, and a crew will be available to discuss the job and dispense important fire safety advice.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life at Hopetoun House, South Queensferry, takes place on Sunday 11th May at 11am with 1,800 women taking part in a bid to raise £131,000.
The second Race for Life to be held in Edinburgh is on Sunday 1st June, in Holyrood Park, at 11am with 7,300 women taking part aiming to raise over £491,000.
