03 November 2006 - Release Annual Performance Indicators
November 3, 2006 – Today, Lothian and Borders Fire and Resuce Service released its Service Plan 2006. Detailed within the 94 page report are performance indicators that give context to the change programme underway within the Fire and Rescue Service since the Service Improvement Plan was approved in January 2006.
The Service Improvement Plan outlines how the Service is delivering a shift in emphasis from intervention to prevention – the underpinning feature of modernising the Fire and Rescue Service.
Service Plan 2006 Highlights:
- The overall attendance times, for all risk categories, compared favourably with the national average
- The average time to handle a call was 56 seconds
- Across Scotland there has been a reduction in attacks on firefighters
- Firefighters have fitted in excess of 17,000 smoke detectors in local homes
- The Fire museum has been visited by over 2700 youths and visitors
- The proportion of women firefighters and officers continues to be higher than any other fire and Rescue Service in Scotland
- There is a downward trend in Accidental Dwelling Fires
Cllr Ken Harrold, Convenor of the Lothian and Borders Fire Board said: “This report shows just how far this Service has come in short period of time. There has been a lot of hard work put into the service improvements and prevention initiatves and already the benefits can be seen.”
