Bristol Helmet - [download PDF]

With the cessation of hostilities and return to peacetime fire fighting a replacement for the steel helmet was bought.

After prolonged research and tests it was decided to purchase the Bristol type helmet manufactured by Helmets Limited.

This consisted of a cork shell with a plastic liner. The helmet was covered with cotton drill and adjustable head liner and chin straps.

These helmets were subject to damage caused by operational use and bad storage, the comb in particular being prone to fraying and splitting.

During regular inspections it was discovered the helmets needed maintenance and repainting.
