As Honorary Curator of The Museum of Fire and past Assistant Firemaster in the Service, Ian McMurtrie has a wealth of knowledge on the history of firefighting. Mr McMurtrie joined the Brigade, as it was known then, in 1949. Now retired, Mr McMurtrie has written a series of articles on historic firefighting equipment, most of which is exhibited in the Museum of Fire at Lauriston Place.
