Operational resources are distributed throughout the Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service area. Thirteen fire stations are staffed on a wholetime basis, and three of these also provide an additional retained response. A further 19 fire stations are staffed exclusively by retained personnel. There are also three stations which provide wholetime during the day Monday to Friday and retained at evenings and weekends via the Day Shift Duty System (DSDS). For the purposes of command and management, these 36 fire stations are grouped into Commands; a Group Manager from the Service Delivery Group is designated Station Commander for each.
